A few easy holiday security tips
- Never advertise the fact you are going on holiday. If possible load your vehicle inside your garage.
- Arrange for neighbours to park a vehicle in your driveway and switch your lights on and off at different times and open and close your curtains.
- Leave a radio playing on a talk back station.
- Have someone collect your mail and newspapers or have them stopped for longer periods.
- Have a trusted garden service do your lawns.
- Lock away garden tools, ladders etc.
- If you have gates on your driveway close them at night - it does stop the wannabe opportunists.
- Leave large gumboots by the door.
- Always switch on your answer phone when leaving the house. (Units you can access from elsewhere are good for monitoring calls.)
- Have a quality alarm system. (Give the code to your trusted neighbour)
- Or if you can - get a house sitter. (With lots of references)
